Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger has represented Virginia’s 7th Congressional District since defeating incumbent Rep. Dave Brat in 2018. The Congresswoman began her career in public service as a federal law enforcement officer with the US Postal Inspection Service, working on narcotics and money laundering cases. She then joined the CIA as an operations officer, serving during the Bush and Obama administrations. In Congress, Rep. Spanberger serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where she is a Vice-Chair of the Europe, Eurasia, Energy, & the Environment Subcommittee and a member of the Asia, the Pacific, & Nonproliferation Subcommittee.
As a former CIA operations officer, Congresswoman Spanberger understands the significance of the national security partnership between the US and Israel, and she supports the continued cooperation between US and Israeli intelligence organizations. During her time with the CIA, Rep. Spanberger focused specifically on the Iranian nuclear threat, including the clandestine collection of information related to the Iranian nuclear program. For this reason, she has a deep appreciation for the immense diplomatic achievement that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action represented. She remains committed to working to ensure that Iran is not able to develop a nuclear weapon. She is a cosponsor of House Resolution 326, which reaffirms Congress’s commitment to two-state solution and opposes settlement expansion and annexation.
