Alan Khazei is one of America’s premier social entrepreneurs who has launched multiple nonprofit organizations and spent his life putting people before politics. He is the co-founder and former CEO of City Year, a national youth service corps that inspired the development of AmeriCorps, America’s federal investment in national youth service. He previously ran for the US Senate in 2009 and 2012 and is an honors graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. There is a crowded Democratic field for this open blue seat. Khazei has also raised over one million dollars in his bid, and is endorsed by Rep. Jamie Raskin, Obama UN Ambassador and National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and Four-Star General Stanley McChrystal.
Khazei supports a strong and special US-Israel relationship. He maintains the US has a central role to play in negotiating a two-state solution that allows both Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace, with Israel remaining Jewish and democratic. Khazei is committed to continuing the American aid relationship with Israel and will be an advocate for the restoration of Palestinian aid in Congress. As Khazei supports the state of Israel, he will not shy away from criticizing actions that challenge peace, such as Israeli settlement expansion into Palestinian lands and annexation of the West Bank. As a representative, Khazei will devote himself to ensuring Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. He was an early public supporter of the JCPOA and will fight to bring Iran and the US back to the table to negotiate a deal that prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
