Ami Bera

House - Incumbent

Congressman Ami Bera has represented California’s Seventh Congressional District since 2013. Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Bera had a long career in medicine, working as a physician, in various leadership roles for his medical group, as Sacramento County’s Chief Medical Officer, and finally as a professor and dean at the University of California, Davis. Rep. Bera’s 2012 victory against a Tea Party favorite was decided by just over 5,000 votes, making it one of the closest races of the cycle, and his victories in 2014 and 2016 were similarly close—though he won re-election by 10 points in 2018 and more in 2020. Congressman Bera sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is Chair of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee; he is also Vice Chair of the House Committee on Space, Science, and Technology. He holds a leadership position in the New Democrat Coalition.

In Congress, Rep. Bera is a strong voice for pro-Israel, pro-peace values, and a diplomacy-first approach to foreign policy. He has been a JStreetPAC endorsee since his first election in 2012, and has remained a champion of J Street’s issues in Congress. In the last Congress, he signed onto letters calling for the restoration of aid to UNRWA and the PA and reaffirming support for the two-state solution. In the 116th Congress, Rep. Bera cosponsored H.Res. 326, which put Congress on the record reaffirming support for the two-state solution and opposing annexation and settlement expansion.
