Senator Brian Schatz has been Hawaii’s senior Senator since 2012, since being appointed to serve out former Senator Daniel Inouye’s term. He previously served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006, and he was the lieutenant governor of Hawaii until his Senate appointment. The Senator has proven to be an effective leader in the Senate – serving for a time as Chief Deputy Whip – and a strong voice for the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement. In the Senate, he serves on the Committees on Foreign Relations, Appropriations, Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and Indian Affairs, which he chairs.
Senator Schatz, who is Jewish, has traveled to Israel on numerous occasions and is an outspoken supporter of US leadership in reaching a two-state solution. The Senator is also a supporter of the diplomatic agreement with Iran over its nuclear program. A JStreetPAC endorsee since 2014, Senator Schatz has been one of J Street’s most vocal allies in Congress in promoting a two-state solution.
