Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has represented lllinois’ 17th Congressional District since 2013. The Congresswoman’s defeat of Tea Party Republican Bobby Schilling in 2012 drew national attention and she was heavily – but ultimately unsuccessfully – targeted for defeat in 2014 by outside groups. Before her high profile election, Rep. Bustos spent two decades working in journalism. A key member of party leadership, Rep. Bustos is currently the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the party’s main body for coordinating House campaigns, and she serves on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. In Congress, she sits on the powerful House Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittee on Defense.
Congresswoman Bustos was first endorsed by JStreetPAC in 2012 and has been a consistent ally of the two-state solution and the Iran nuclear deal. In the last Congress, she signed onto a letter that reaffirmed bipartisan support reaffirming support for the two-state solution and opposed both anti-BDS measures that came up. This session, she was a cosponsor of H.Res. 326, which gets Congress on the record reaffirming support for the two-state solution and opposing annexation and settlement expansion.
