Greg Stanton is the former mayor of Phoenix, Arizona and the Democratic nominee in Arizona’s 9th congressional district. Prior to his tenure as Mayor, Stanton served nine years on the Phoenix City Council and as Arizona’s Deputy Attorney General. He attended Marquette University and University of Michigan Law School.
During Stanton’s tenure in public service, he has traveled to Israel several times to forge ties between Phoenix and Israel. As a result, Israel and Phoenix have shared agricultural techniques, which has increased Phoenix’s farming efficacy. Stanton is committed to maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge with the help of US foreign aid. He also opposes the global BDS movement, while remaining committed to defending constitutionally protected free speech.
Stanton believes that the US should never stop working toward a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He supports continued, targeted, and completely accountable US aid to the Palestinian Authority that will be used explicitly to promote stability and security for Israelis and Palestinians. He believes that Iran should never be able to acquire a nuclear weapon. Now that the US has pulled out of the JCPOA, Stanton believes that Congress must be prepared to sanction Iran if they undertake nuclear weapons development, and must keep all options on the table if that occurs. At the same time, he is committed to working toward a diplomatic solution that addresses Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
