A Capitol Hill veteran, Representative Jim McGovern worked for years as a congressional aide before first winning election to Congress in 1996 as the representative from Massachusetts’ 2nd Congressional District. Rep. McGovern has earned a reputation as a champion of human rights and was one of the strongest voices against the invasion of Iraq in the House of Representatives. He also earned national attention for his outspoken push for a timeline for U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. He is the Chair of the House Rules Committee.
Throughout his time in Congress, Rep. McGovern has been a public champion of J Street’s issues in Congress. He was one of the earliest cosponsors of House Resolution 326, which reaffirms Congress’s commitment to two-state solution and opposes settlement expansion and annexation.
