Jo Anne Simon

House - Open

Jo Anne Simon is a New York State Assemblywoman for the 52nd District, which includes portions of Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Park Slope, Boerum Hill, and DUMBO. Prior to joining the Assembly Jo Anne was a teacher of deaf students, community activist, and disability civil rights lawyer who won a landmark case in front of the supreme court.

Jo Anne has said that “with a seat in Congress, [she] will support Israel and our shared interests as well as working toward improving the plight of the Palestinians which ultimately is the best path forward to peace.” In order “to best ensure both the security and human rights needs of Israel and the Palestinians, [she believes] in and will support a two-state solution.” Simon is committed to Israel’s security, but is steadfast in her belief that it “does not and should not require the interference with basic human rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination.” On Iran, Simon “support[s] the reinstatement of the JCPOA, the abandonment of which by the prior U.S. administration has only emboldened Iran to continue its pursuit of nuclear weapons.”
