In 2012, Congressman Joaquin Castro was elected to represent Texas’ 20th district, the main congressional district for San Antonio and Bexar County. He currently serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He was the 2013 co-President for the House freshman Democrats and serves in House Democratic Leadership as Chief Deputy Whip.
Rep. Castro supports a strong US-Israel relationship, and believes that the US should play a leading role in efforts to secure a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians through a negotiated two-state solution. During his time in Congress, Castro voted in favor of the Iran nuclear deal and signed on to the Price-Connolly letter, a bipartisan effort signed by 191 Members of Congress to urge President Trump to reaffirm support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is a cosponsor of House Resolution 326, which reaffirms Congress’s commitment to two-state solution and opposes settlement expansion and annexation.
