Rep. Joe Kennedy has represented Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District in Congress since 2013. A Stanford and Harvard Law graduate, Kennedy began his career as a prosecutor and worked as an assistant district attorney before running for this seat vacated by Rep. Barney Frank’s retirement. In the House, he serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where he has become a national champion for access to health care and mental health. Kennedy was first endorsed by JStreetPAC in his 2016 House reelection. Kennedy is a popular four-term Congressman putting up a strong progressive challenge against incumbent senator Ed Markey for this safe Democratic primary seat. Kennedy has been endorsed by many of his House colleagues, including Reps. John Lewis and Joaquin Castro.
Kennedy has been endorsed by JStreetPAC since 2016, and has been an active champion of J Street’s issues in the most recent Congress. In just the last six months, Kennedy signed on to the Levin-Lowenthal letter opposing the Trump peace proposal and annexation and the Levin letter opposing the Trump administration’s policy reversal on settlement expansion. He was also a cosponsor of H. Res 326, which reaffirms congressional support for a two-state solution and opposes annexation and settlement expansion. Kennedy has also been a strong supporter of a diplomatic approach to engaging with Iran. He voted for the Khanna-Gaetz Amendment to the NDAA last year, which clarified that the Trump administration could not use military force in Iran without explicit congressional authorization. Kennedy also co-sponsored the Prevention of Unconstitutional War with Iran Act and voted in favor of the JCPOA in 2015.
