Lauren Baer is the Democratic nominee to face Republican Rep. Brian Mast in Florida’s 18th Congressional District. Baer is a Marshall scholar, attorney, and former senior advisor in the State Department during the Obama Administration. She is currently a consultant with the Albright Stonebridge Group. Baer is closely connected with the Jewish community in Palm Beach and her grandparents founded the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.
Baer grew up in a family with strong ties to Israel and was raised to see it as a second home. As her love for Israel grew, she learned about the complex politics of the region and was taught that peace and a two-state solution are within reach. During her time working in the State Department, she advocated against anti-Israel bias at the UN, for increased foreign assistance to Israel, and for Israeli and Palestinian civil society groups. Baer believes that the two-state solution is the only path toward peace and that peace will only come through bilateral negotiations between the two parties with facilitation from the United States. She is strongly opposed to the BDS movement. Additionally, Baer has said the Trump administration’s decision to withdraw from the JCPOA was “deeply misguided.”
