Mandela Barnes

- Challenger

Mandela Barnes currently serves as Wisconsin’s 45th Lt. Governor and is a candidate in Wisconsin’s Democratic Senate primary. He is the first African-American Lt. Governor of Wisconsin and only the second African-American to be elected statewide. Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, Mandela was elected to the State Assembly where he emerged as a champion on issues of the environment, economy, education, racial justice, and health care. He became the chair of the legislature’s Black and Latino Caucus in his first term, became a national leader on gun violence prevention, and was recognized as one of the top pro-growth progressive leaders in the country
Barnes’ views on the US-Israel relationship are rooted in his ties to the Milwaukee Jewish community, having worked as an interfaith community organizer, and his travels to Israel. As a Senator, he would view his role as an ally to peacemakers all over the world, working to continue the American legacy of working towards peace and a two-state solution. He supports aid to Israel and the Palestinian people and opposes any actions that reduce the chances for a two-state solution, such as expansion of settlements and annexation of West Bank territory; forced relocation of Palestinians; and demolitions of Palestinian homes and businesses as well as incitements to hatred and violence by Palestinian leaders and the use of terrorism by Hamas.
