Senator Maria Cantwell has served as Washington’s junior senator since 2000. She had previously represented Washington’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995. In the Senate, she serves on the Committees on Commerce/Science/Transportation, Energy and Natural Resources, Finance, Indian Affairs, and Small Business.
Senator Cantwell has been a strong ally of J Street during her time in the Senate. She has voted in favor of multiple resolutions in support of the two-state solution, and has on many occasions reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defense and the importance of US leadership in reaching a two-state solution. Senator Cantwell also demonstrated her commitment to diplomacy-based solutions when she backed the JCPOA, an agreement that verifiably blocked each of Iran’s pathways to a nuclear weapon until Trump’s unilateral withdrawal.
