Senator Mark Kelly is an astronaut and former US Navy Captain. He made two deployments to the Middle East as a naval flight aviator, and flew 39 combat missions during the First Gulf War. Kelly joined NASA in 1996 and commanded his final space flight in May of 2011. In 2007, he married former Representative Gabby Giffords. Sen. Kelly represents Arizona after winning the special election to serve out the rest of the term of the late Sen. John McCain. In the Senate, he serves on the Committees on Armed Services, Energy and Natural Resources, and Environment and Public Works.
The Senator is committed to a strong US-Israel relationship and supports a diplomatically reached two-state solution. He believes that the US has a central role to play in fostering a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Kelly supports continued aid to Israel and the restoration of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. He opposed the Trump Administration’s withdrawal from the JCPOA.
