Mary Gay Scanlon is the Democratic nominee in Pennsylvania’s 5th congressional district (PA-05) and has been a public interest lawyer and advocate for over 35 years. She was an elected Wallingford Swarthmore School Board member from 2007-2015 where she served as Vice President and President. Scanlon won a competitive 10-way primary with 28% of the vote in May to secure the Democratic endorsement for this newly-redrawn seat.
Mary Gay understands that Israel is the United States’ most important ally in the Middle East and that in order to maintain Israel’s Jewish and democratic character, a two-state solution is essential. She supports continued US security aid to Israel to bolster Israel’s defensive capabilities. Similarly, she is committed to maintaining US aid to the Palestinian Authority to support the crucial security collaboration between the Israeli and Palestinian governments.
When it comes to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Scanlon believes that Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon would threaten the United States, Israel, and the Middle East as a whole. She condemned President Trump’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and hopes to encourage efforts to foster a diplomatic solution with Iran and our allies
