Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon represents Pennsylvania’s fifth Congressional District. Prior to running for Congress, she was a public interest lawyer and advocate for over 35 years. Throughout her legal career, Rep. Scanlon worked extensively in voting rights, immigration, criminal justice reform, and asylum cases. Rep. Scanlon was also an elected Wallingford Swarthmore School Board member from 2007 to 2015, where she served as Vice President and President.
Rep. Scanlon understands that Israel is the United States’ most important ally in the Middle East and that in order to maintain Israel’s Jewish and democratic character, a two-state solution is essential. She supports continued US security aid to Israel as well as resuming aid to the Palestinian Authority to improve humanitarian conditions and foster security collaboration. In Congress, Rep. Scanlon has been a strong supporter of US leadership in negotiating a two-state solution, being an early cosponsor of House Resolution 326, reaffirming Congress’s support for a two-state solution and opposing settlement expansion and annexation.
