Matt Cartwright

House - Incumbent

Congressman Matt Cartwright is serving his fifth term representing Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District in the House of Representatives. Prior to his first election in 2012, in which he beat a longtime incumbent conservative Democrat by over 14 points in the primary, Rep. Cartwright spent 25 years working as a private-practice attorney. He most recently won reelection in 2020 while Donald Trump carried his district by more than four points. He holds a BA from Hamilton College and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Rep. Cartwright is an outspoken supporter of Israel, strongly supporting US leadership in brokering a two-state peace. In Congress, he serves on the Appropriations Committee and chairs its Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies. Within party leadership, he is the Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. In the last session, Rep. Cartwright was an early cosponsor of House Resolution 326, which reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to the two-state solution and opposed settlement expansion and annexation.
