Rep. Mike Thompson was first elected to serve California’s Fifth Congressional District in 1999. Thompson was born in St. Helena, California and attended California State University–Chico. An Army veteran and small business owner, Rep. Thompson worked as a professor of public administration and served as an aide to then-Assemblywoman Jackie Speier before being elected to the California State Senate in 1990.
In Congress, Rep. Thompson serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and is an outspoken supporter of US leadership to broker a two-state solution. He has been a frequent supporter of J Street’s legislative priorities, and he was an early cosponsor of House Resolution 326, which reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to two-state solution and opposed settlement expansion and annexation.
