Former diplomat Nancy Soderberg is running to replace retiring GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis in Florida’s 6th Congressional District, which stretches from southern St. John’s county to New Smyrna Beach and west to Eustis, including Daytona. She served in the Clinton administration on the National Security Council and as Ambassador to the United Nations. She also served in Senator Ted Kennedy’s office as a Senior Foreign Policy Advisor. Ambassador Soderberg has been active in Democratic politics since the early 1980s, having worked on four presidential campaigns.
As a former diplomat, Ambassador Soderberg has traveled to Israel many times, including with Senator Kennedy and as a US Ambassador at the United Nations. In her role at the UN, she negotiated the UN Security Council resolution regarding Israeli troop withdrawal from Lebanon that accounted for Israel’s legitimate security concerns. If elected to Congress, Ambassador Soderberg looks forward to being a vocal supporter of the two-state solution, which, in her words, “remains the only practical path whereby Israel and the Palestinians can realize an equitable and durable peace.”
