Rep. Steve Cohen was first elected to represent Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District in 2006 as the state’s first Jewish congressman. Before running for Congress, Rep. Cohen served in the Tennessee State Senate for over twenty years and served one term as a Shelby County commissioner. His family has lived in Memphis for four generations.
Rep. Cohen, a six-time JStreetPAC endorsee, has been a strong friend of the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement. He has consistently supported J Street-backed initiatives in Congress – signing on to all six endorsed measures in the 2016-18 House – and has taken a leading role in encouraging his colleagues to do the same. He was an early cosponsor of House Resolution 326, which reaffirms Congress’s commitment to two-state solution and opposes settlement expansion and annexation.
